More to Be Done: California’s Local Control Funding Formula After a Decade

The 2013 introduction of the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) aimed to fund schools more fairly and better align opportunities with those aspirations. However, a decade later, LCFF remains a missed opportunity. Despite some progress, significant shortcomings in the formula have allowed racial inequities in student outcomes to persist, stalled progress for multilingual learners, and left gaps in family engagement and district accountability.
