OAKLAND, CA — In response to the release of updated data on the California School Dashboard, Melissa Valenzuela-Stookey, Director of P-16 Research at EdTrust-West, issued the following statement:

“The Dashboard shines a light on inequities — but transparency alone will not change outcomes for students of color, multilingual learners, and low-income students. The Dashboard’s value lies not in what it reports, but in its ability to drive investment, accountability, and a greater sense of urgency.

Key findings:

The results showcased in this year’s dashboard send an undeniable message: California’s state leaders must take action now to accelerate growth for students who have been underserved for far too long.

EdTrust-West will continue to analyze the Dashboard data to identify trends and gaps by race, income, and language status, and to publish recommendations for state and local policymakers aimed at ensuring that every child in California has access to great teaching, strong schools, and real opportunity.”
