California, feds in showdown over overhaul of schools

The state Senate on Tuesday approved a bill that would overhaul California’s standardized testing system despite the threat that the changes could result in the loss of millions in federal education dollars.

The measure passed on a 25-7 vote and will now return to the Assembly.
