The announcement by Superintendent Thurmond to accelerate the development of housing units by schools is encouraging. Educators of color and multilingual educators have expressed for years that the lack of affordable housing presents a significant financial barrier, especially for those who want to work and teach in their home communities. This announcement of this Initiative must be met with clear plans for swift action with transparent and measurable milestones for success.
EdTrust-West will monitor the Initiative’s progress, look for ways to partner with CDE, and keep our partners updated as part of the resources we disseminate and the Teachers We Need Campaign.
