Viviana Martin

Senior Policy Analyst

Viviana (she/her) is a Higher Education Senior Policy Analyst at EdTrust-West. Viviana, a proud Latina and first-generation college student, has dedicated her career to dismantling systemic injustices that disproportionately affect racial and ethnic minorities. She was raised by Mexican immigrants in Palm Springs, California, who instilled in her the profound importance of higher education as a gateway to increased opportunities. Viviana’s passion for meaningful systems change work is grounded in the values she learned from her low-income, immigrant community. She began engaging in this work during her undergraduate career, where she worked in student government to secure funding for scholarships and resources for Latino and other marginalized students (e.g., Latinx Resource Center) and interned with the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, a Latino civil rights nonprofit.

Viviana brings considerable experience in policy analysis, strategy, and advocacy. Before joining EdTrust-West, Viviana completed the competitive Coro Fellowship in Public Affairs. She worked on research analysis, community engagement strategies, and policy implementation to drive positive change across sectors. Most recently, Viviana worked with UnidosUS, the nation’s most considerable Latino Civil Rights nonprofit, where she uplifted the education, health, and economic needs of Latinos across California and advocated for legislative and administrative policy changes. Viviana attended the University of California Berkeley, where she obtained her bachelor’s in Political Economy with a focus on Inequities in Public Policy.
