Assembly Bill 2548: Equity & Accountability

Assembly Bill 2548 is authored by Assemblymember Shirley Weber. This legislation lays a foundation for California’s new accountability system, retains the important local control provisions of LCFF, and ensures our state system will align with new federal requirements.

Specifically, AB 2548:

  • Doesn’t narrow the accountability system, but instead focuses the conversation and ensures that key indicators are used to meaningfully differentiate schools
  • Requires measures of college and career readiness to be included as key indicators
  • Guarantees chronic absence and school climate measures will be included
  • Ensures we avoid the confusion of the past dueling state and federal systems and instead have a single, coherent accountability system that aligns with the Every Student Succeeds Act
